Lauren
Lauren Taylor, a Memphis, Tennessee native, began her dance training at the age of three attending several local studios in Memphis, including DanzHouse and various summer intensives. She attended the Dance Theater of Harlem summer intensive in 2012. She then attended the Co. Dance Convention and was a scholarship recipient in 2013. In 2016 she attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts Modern Dance Summer Program on scholarship. She trained and graduated from Collage Dance Collective where she was a part of their youth ensemble and conservatory from 2013-2018. While at Collage she performed works by Kevin Thomas, Brandye Lee, Yosek Prieto, Kevin Iega Jeff, Tammy Hurt, Andrea Long, Marc Spaulding, Dougie Styles, Arla Scott, Arthur Mitchell, Keith Lee, Men Ca, Lisa Ballo, Endalyn Taylor, Angela Nguyen, and Darrell Grand Moultrie. Since then she has graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelors of Science in Dance (concentration in pedagogy) and minor in psychology. During her college education Lauren danced professionally as a member of the MTSU Dance Theatre Company. She has worked with guest artist Katherine Duke, Daniel Gwirtzman, Colleen Barnes and Matt Pardo. She has served in many leadership roles on campus including Recording Secretary and Arts chair for the Eta Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Vice President of Programming for the MTSU National Panhellenic Council Executive Board, MTSU Dance and Theatre Student Advisory Board Member and President of the MTSU Dance Society. In these roles Lauren has planned and executed large scale community events that educate students on black culture, history and art like “Pearls, Paint and Power: A Look at the Black Movement Through Art” and NPHC Week 2021. A fervent learner, Lauren continues to educate herself through her passion for education. She is pursing a Master of Arts in Dance Education from The University of North Carolina, Greensboro. While studying Lauren teaches dance and theater at Kirby High School and is an activist for students within her community who live in low income communities. Her mission is to educate at-risk youth and provide fine arts opportunities to them at no cost.
